Infrared Photography

Photography by Dave Hargus

Thank you for viewing my photography!

Infrared photography is different than color or black and white photography in that the camera film or sensor (in the case of digital) records the infrared spectrum. I have found this unique media to be interesting. With the advent of digital photography, cameras can easily be converted to record infrared (IR). While there are numerous companies offering infrared conversions (just Google it).

Once a camera is converted to IR, images are recorded and then must be processed. I typically use the Channel Swap in Photoshop CS3 to swap the Red and Blue channels. Sometimes this seems to cause the image to be too blue and I adjust the processing until I’m satisfied with the image. In some cases, I like the look of converting the image to a black and white image. You will notice that green trees and grass will mostly turn white in IR images. Sometimes colors will remain in the image.

The bottom line is you either like infrared images or do not like infrared images.

If you have comments on my IR images or any of my Calaveras Images, please email me at dhargus@gmail.com. Thanks, and enjoy… Dave Hargus
